David McBride will open a school in Rochester, New York built on the ideals of strong school culture, data-driven instruction, and character development. “The path to college is challenging, and these pillars – ambitious goals, a zest for learning, and grit – will allow students to be successful on their educational journey. Staff and students will share the singular vision and mission that all students are equipped to get to and through college and live successful lives.”
David’s first teaching experience was as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. Upon moving back to the United States, he became a founding history teacher at Uncommon Schools’ Rochester Preparatory Middle School, Brooks Campus, later transitioning to Principal. After seven years at the Brooks campus, David became the founding Principal at Rochester Preparatory High School. In this role, he oversaw all facets of the school – from academic to cultural, human resources to professional development, from teachers and staff to students and their families. David plans to use his experience with Uncommon Schools to bring more opportunities to the students in Rochester. “I believe that my experience leading two high-performing schools, in an area in which I have lived most of my life, will allow me to open a successful school that will provide academic choice to more students. There is an incredible need for high-performing schools in Rochester, and this school will shift the academic landscape of my city.”
David holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and American Studies from Hobart and William Smith, and a Master of Arts in both American Studies and Philosophy from the University of Nottingham in England.
