By the fourth grade, black and Hispanic students are nearly three years behind their white counterparts.

In mathematics, only 12 percent of black students and 17 percent of Hispanic students met proficient or advanced levels on the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Of 10 inner-city children who start kindergarten, five will graduate from high school—and only one will earn a college degree.

America’s educational system is failing students in urban centers, and we all pay the price.
This is the problem.
