“I believe that education is the great equalizer for all students, and more specifically for underserved populations in this country. I also believe that it is a moral obligation for all children to receive an equitable education, no matter their background, zip code, or district.” Deyvis Salazar plans to found and lead a school in Houston, Texas with high expectations “in every lesson, every handshake, and every piece of feedback.”
Deyvis knows there are a lot of details that make a school great, from clear protocols and routines right down to the color on the walls, and has an unwavering belief that every student can be held to high expectations.
Deyvis began teaching at Global Scholars Academy in New York City, where he designed and taught lessons for at-risk students in ELA, math, science, and social studies. At the Neighborhood Charter School of Harlem, he served first as the Founding Director for Special Education – managing all IEPs and supervising the learning experience – and then as Founding Assistant Principal – supervising staff, designing a Common Core-aligned curriculum, building relationships with families, and delivering professional development. He most recently served as Principal, leading all aspects of the school.
Deyvis holds a Bachelor of Arts from Oswego State University and a Master of Science in Education from Pace University.
